The support for the Pay Now Illinois coalition
suit against the state of Illinois for failure
to pay human and social service agencies and
companies for more than 300 days of work has
been overwhelmingly positive. We have a waiting
list of companies and agencies seeking to join
our plaintiffs group; we hope to have an amended
filing to our suit soon. A major recent
development is that the business community is
growing deeply concerned about how the impact of
cuts to social services due to the States
failure to pay its bills is further eroding
our fiscal well being. Thats bad for everybody.
This Bloomberg Story nails the
issue.
When people ask what took us so long to file the
suit, the immediate short term answer is that
nobody believed this would go on for so long.
Slow-pay on invoices is not new. This is: no pay
since July 1, 2015, despite our signed contracts
with the state. We are tired of acting as the
States creditor. And we are tired of being
ignored. We want to be paid so we can get back
to our work of helping people in need.
